All classes are at the beautiful Alpine Hill Country Club pool in Portola Valley. 4139 Alpine Road, Portola Valley, CA 94028. Portola Valley is in Northern California, approximately 30 miles South of San Francisco.
Our sessions are on Saturdays and Sundays, usually from 10 AM to 2 PM. The exact time depends on which group you fit in. Groups are broken up by age, ability and gender.
We do not. Many of our players have ODP (Olympic Development Program) practices or team tournaments. We fit our practices into the local water polo teams schedules.
After years of experimenting, I have found that small group sessions are the best way for players to learn the skills and apply them into game relevant situations. It optimizes the time to teach, learn and practice the skills they are learning.
Many parents feel this way. I have found that it just isn’t true. Water polo is a team sport, played with and against peers. Players must be able to react, adjust and even compensate for their teammates. The only way they get this is in small group sessions. However, we do over Goal Setting Sessions and Video Analysis which are in a one-to-one format.
I offer somethi17ng that nobody else does. First, most coaches don’t know the advanced elite skills that I teach. My experience as an Olympian and professional water polo player are unmatched by anyone. Second, the coaches that do know elite skills only teach through a weekend clinic offered once a year. This isyear not enough time to learn and master the skills and techniques needed. Finally, most club coaches are overworked with too many players and limited ability to focus on developing skills.
The fundamentals (body position, movement and ball control) are the most important skills to have. If a player is lacking in these three components it is very difficult to become an elite player. Sadly, most players that come to my program are behind in all these three areas. It is one reason the US is behind in the world water polo community.
Most players take ten to twelve sessions a year. Many take more. It varies greatly by what their goals are
We take boys and girls from the ages of 11 up to 17. I have found that younger players lack the maturity and experience to benefit the most from my teaching. Usually, after 17 or 18, kids play in college or even for one of our national team programs.
Typically no, as there are so many basic skills to learn that they will be too faocusr behind the other players. However, this is not always the case. If you think she’s a good candidate for our program, give me a call and let's find out.
You are invited to come out and watch one of our sessions and see if it is a good fit for you. If you sign-up for a session and are unhappy for any reason, a full refund will be provided. We want our clients to be successful and motivated.
We have a variety of ways to pay for the small group sessions.
All sessions are two hours with four two six athletes in the groups. Here is the breakdown:
A: One session, one time:: $200
B: Four Sessions: $700
Discounts for bringing multiple athletes to a session: $50/athlete.
For instance, if a group of six athletes joins all together, the cost would be $650 per athlete. Payments are through Venmo or check.
We provide two other services; Video Analysis and Goal Setting:
In Video Analysis athletes provide video of a recent game they played in. We go over the game one-on-one and identify strengths and weaknesses during game play. This helps know what to focus on during practice. We look at individual skills as well as team concepts and develop a plan to address improvement.
These sessions are one-on-one, by arrangement only take approximately 90 minutes. The cost for this service is $200.
For Goal Setting sessions we meet one-on-one and go into great detail on their goals for water polo and life. We develop a complete 100 day plan for making massive progress ons these goals. This program also comes with a journal for them to record and reflect on their progress.
It includes frequent check in sessions for accountability as well as a wrap up session at the end of the program.
Goal Setting sessions are $200 as well.
